In 1984 Henk Joos got his Ph.D in
Biology – Genetics at the University of Ghent, Belgium. He studied further in ‘on the job’ management trainings.

He started as a research scientist at Plant Genetic Systems N.V. (PGS) and rapidly advanced; becoming Director of Business Development in 1994 and from 1996 to 2002 was Director of PGS N.V. At the same time he directed the Business Line OSR/Canola until 2000, and then was head of Breeding & Product Development (Aventis CropScience). From 2002 he has been Director of Bayer BioScience N.V. and Head of Molecular Breeding & Biochemical Analysis. In 2006 he became, and is at present, the Plant Science & Agronomy Director of D1 Oils Plc.

His accomplishments include, among others, launching the first Canola In Vigor Hybrids in Canada, which resulted in huge turnovers and a #1 global position for the Canola Seed Company in 2006. Between 2002 and 2006, he successfully implemented a global portfolio reporting system in Bayer BioScience. Since then, he has been implementing a new strategy and organizational structure to the D1 Oils Plant Science program.

He has held various additional positions between 2002 and 2006 including: Member Board for IOF (Industrial Research Fund of Ghent University), Member Board of Directors FlandersBio, Chairman of Detection Methods Committee (TAG) EuropaBio, and at present is Vice-President Board of Directors Bio.be, which is the newly created Belgian Biotech Association.
